Easter Weekend.

I started running with my new heart rate monitor (HRM). Well, I ran until it beeped to tell me to slow down. Then walked until it beeped to tell me to speed up. There was a lot of walking. The three 5km sessions I did over the weekend came in at around 50 minutes each. Very slow.

My heart rate doesn't go very high. Which is reassuring. But it does get high very quickly. And it does go back down quickly as well. If only I could run quickly. I'm going to give it a couple of weeks and if there is no improvement then I'll try using the 'Hard' setting. Or lie about my age.

Lots of good news. Neil Roche is a father again, a little girl called Rebecca. And two of my cousins got engaged (though not to each other I hasten to add). So well done Sam and Gavin.

Despite making the most of Easter as an excuse to stuff myself full of seasonal treats like chocolate, cheese and curry I seem to have lost half a pound. Perhaps 'running' 15km over the weekend really did help. This week though I must keep a close eye on my intake. I am going out tonight to celebrate Nigel getting a new job, there's a Sema night out on Friday and Jim Ilffe's first birthday party on Saturday. I am doomed.

Cambridge Evening News Messageboard

The Cambridge Evening News has a new website with groovy message boards. Its like an uncensored, unedited version of the letters page. These people aren't angry. They're very annoyed and frequently disgusted.

Training Begins!

I ran, without stopping, from our house to Newmarket Road (0.6 miles). Big round of applause! It is a couple of streets further than I expected which is nice but it does highlight just how much work there is still to do.

Once I got across Newmarket Rd I ran the training intervals from the Bob Glover running book (Two minute walk breaks and run 1-1-2-2-1-1). This got me to the half way mark (just past the Pike and Eel on Stourbridge Common and back to the road.

That done I decided to run up the two hills on the way back and walk between them. The second hill really is more of a gentle slope. And a short gentle slope at that.

Close to home by this stage I sprint/walked between the alternating lamp posts until I got to our street.

And then I collapsed in a heap.

St Paddys Day Dinner

Well we did meet at the Marylebone Tup for a pint of Guinness first but that was the only nod to St Paddy. For dinner we headed to La Galette for crepes and cider. Really tasty. And the cider was served in very cute ceramic bowls.

Weigh In

So, Weight Watchers. Well the news was never going to be good. Tapas with Lou, Nigel and Katya last week coupled with the Bielby Johns visiting over the weekend could only mean overindulgence.

So, as expected, my weight went up. But only by half a pound. Not good, not good at all but not a set back too far. This week is going to be much better.

And this weekend I'm going to start running again. Race For Life looms. I have two sponsors already!

Race For Life 2005

I've signed up for the Race for Life again. This time I'm going to go to sunny St Albans and run with Louise and (I think) Annalie. It'll be nice to have company and I think it will definitely motivate me to train properly to avoid embarassment.

I've set up a sponsorship form here.

Now all I have to do is some training. Wee buns.

February Search Strings

Last month people who came to the Ada Cottage website from a search engine were looking for these sorts of things.

Light up wedding shoes? You can buy wedding shoes that light up? What a genius idea. Though I am a tiny bit concerned that people are getting here because they're looking for "holy war".
