Stephanie is nearly five months old now. Not sure how that is possible or where the time went. She is increasingly determined to sit up and is putting everything in her mouth now. Only a few weeks now and it will be time to try her out on real food. Alex has already tried to give her a prawn cracker and though she did enthusiastically lick it she didn't try to eat it.

Stephanie is the mistress of nearly. She can nearly turn over from her back to her front at whim. And she can nearly sit up.

The turning is funny. She shows no interest in turning from her front to back which you would think would be the easier of the two. She only tries to turn onto her front if she thinks it will aid her reach a far away toy.

There is a lot more work to be done on the sitting. She will sit propped up cushions or in the corner of a chair/couch. Though as soon as anything interesting is spotted she will tip forwards onto her face to reach it. In the bouncy chair she pulls herself upright so that she can lean with all her weight on the restraining strap. And the bumbo is no problem at all.

Her favourite game this week is playing with her toes.

Cooking with Alex helping - messy. Cleaning up afterwards with Alex helping - very, very messy.

Philips Birthday

There aren't too many photos of Philip's birthday but somewhere there is a thousand hours of video of Ian, Adam, Alex and George playing the fishing game. Click here for more photos.

I Spy Red

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

No matter what she says about Pocky, television and babycinos this is really what makes Alex happy. Running. Running here, there and everywhere. If there is a ball to throw or kick just for the joy of being able to run after it so much the better. Dry weather is our friend.

Stephanie is getting quite good at reaching and grabbing. Time to start moving mugs of tea and sharp cutlery much further away that you would think is necessary. Yesterday we were in the car and she discovered that she could tap the rattle to make a noise. And that is just what she did for the entire car journey. A single minded baby.

I have also discovered that the sound of children in one of those indoor play things sends her straight to sleep. She was grouching round the house this morning impossible to settle so I thought I would look at the wee videos we took at a birthday party at the weekend. Lots of laughing, shouting, shrieking children noises. Stephanie was fast asleep within five minutes.

Alex has started to not want to go to Patacakes. I'm not sure why. She seems to have a great time when she is there so I guess it is just the drop off that causes the problem. Today I brought in some Irish food for the wee ones to taste. Irish stew, wheaten bread, cheese, butter, barm brack. They tried to coax Alex into the room by telling her that they had lovely food just like she gets at home. Hmmmm, pretty sure that should be pasta and curry then.

I finally took Stephanie to the Baby Clinic to get her weighed. She weighs 14 pounds and one ounce. It will come to no surprise to anyone who has seen her to learn that she is not failing. She is holding her line on the little graph in the red book. All good.
